Title

Uncommon Leadership

Author

James E. Akenhead, Ed.D.

Synopsis

A Playbook For People-Driven Organizations

On the job, at church, in a club, at school; you are a leader much more than you realize. The question is "What kind of leader are you?" Are you powerful, insulated, and protected? How about politically correct... a leader who knows how to play the game?

Or what about a leader who believes in a team approach; who works from a plan; values the contributions of others and constantly searches for a better way... a leader who knows that success comes in the long haul, not the quick fix? If this is your choice, this book is for you. It provides a blueprint for the operation and a playbook with these valuable elements:

  • A concrete context for leadership design
  • Understanding formal and informal power structures
  • How style and belief drive actions and create persona
  • Specific skills that all leaders need and a model to train them
  • How to use your intuition and gut feelings
  • What to include in your team playbook
  • How to stay healthy by managing stress and time
  • A survey of factors important in leadership Interview questions to help you diagnose and plan
  • What to consider when building a crisis plan
  • How to understand the Zone of Acceptance
  • How to develop no-lose relationships
  • How the Poker Chip Theory applies to decision-making

If you have ever had a feeling that others were about to make a mistake or that you were "right" when others were unsure, you may find the chapter "Intuition and Gut Feelings" worth the price of the book.
