Title

Colonization, Plantations and More in South Carolina

Author

Merlene Hutto Byars

Synopsis

Merlene Hutto Byars is widely known for her love of preserving history and by the books she has authored about the state of South Carolina- its past and evolution. But her new book Colonization, Plantations and More in South Carolina is distinct from the rest. Here, she presents an intelligent exploration of how America developed and advanced despite political and religious odds and the role South Carolina played in all this. The text states, explains and reflects how this country evolved from being a mere colony of England to becoming independent. At the same time, it gives clear insight into why South Carolina attempted to secede from the Union and how a democratic system was ultimately shaped through an unavoidable interrelationship between the various forces and movements involved. Personalities who where instrumental in molding the culture, demeanor, ethnic background and social standing of the people of that era are portrayed in great detail, giving the reader a broad account of the individual as well as interrelated genealogy of some.

Biography

Merlene Byars is no stranger to preserving history. As an artist, publisher and writer, all that she creates reflects in some way her love for the state of South Carolina. Merlene belongs to several literary societies associated with the University of South Carolina. Her fascination with history and genealogy goes back to the time she was twelve years old. She has since traced her family back to Adam and Eve through Royal families in Europe and the Middle East. Merlene has lived in South Carolina most of her life and received her education in Accounting and Journalism. She has published five history books and produced a drama during the Columbia Bicentennial. She has shown her artwork, books and genealogy at Oxford University and Cambridge University, England, New Orleans, LA and Lisbon, Portugal.
