Synopsis
After he had fought in Pacific battles of WWII, as well as fifteen months in the Korean Conflict, Captain Axtell still has his toughest battles ahead. He, along with his family, struggles to overcome many obstacles in order to make life as normal and as happy as is possible under the circumstances. Although prevention of Polio is possible now, Post-Polio Syndrome is still a relentless factor in the lives of its victims.
Biography
Agnes V. Axtell is a widow with four children, one grandson and one great granddaughter. A life-long Texan, she has lived in Japan, Iran and in Spain, but San Antonio is home. She taught English at San Antonio College in the Extension Department while working for the US government at the Defense Language Institute at Lackland AFB. She taught English to foreign military officers. Retired from both jobs by 1997, she spends her time keeping up with the family and friends, and attending church functions. She is an avid reader of widely diverse materials, and educates and annoys her children and close friends with excerpts from books they'd never touch. She is a determined gardener in a struggle with equally reluctant soil and climate.
