Title

The Island Off Stony Point

Author

Regis Schilken

Synopsis

Three people die in an assault on a monastery. Ancient Father Martin is one of three monks taken hostage in order to extort millions from the Catholic Church. They are imprisoned in a cavern on Phlatte Island in Lake Ontario.

Detective Jessica tames arrogant agent Dexter as they follow clues to the island. Youthful, African-American Stony guards aged Martin who is almost a centenarian. Over seventy-five years separates their ages - yet, the two men start to communicate. Stony has never killed; Martin insists it's because of his manly soul.

When Jessica and Dexter arrive to confront the kidnappers, Stony and Martin are gone. They barely get a small seaplane aloft using skills Martin learned during World War II. The take-off, flight, and landing of the seaplane without water would seem miraculous!

Biography

Although Regis has retired as a Pittsburgh educator, the teachings of the Benedictine monks over thirty-five years ago have continued to influence his thinking. He has remained obsessed by such issues as good versus evil and the enigma of existence itself. His stories reflect his search for meaning in a very human way.

Mr. Schilken is has also authored; The Oculi Incident.
